Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo)

Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo)

All mainstream schools are required to have a SENDCo and to hold this position you need to:

  • Be a qualified teacher
  • Achieve a National Award in Special Educational Needs Coordination within three years of appointment

The SENDC0 provides leadership and professional guidance, working closely with pupils, parents and carers, staff and other agencies. The SENDC0 promotes person-centred, inclusive practice in which the interests and needs of pupils with SEN and/or Disabilities are at the heart of everything that they do.

The SENDCo is aware of provision offered through the Derbyshire Local Offer and works with professionals to provide support to families to ensure that children with SEND receive appropriate support and high quality teaching, make at least good progress and achieve good outcomes.

At our school, the SENDCO is Miss K Russell.
