Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities Governor

All governing bodies have important statutory duties towards pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. Governing bodies should, with the Headteacher and SENDCo, decide the school’s general policy and approach to meeting pupils’ special educational needs/disabilities for those with and without EHC plans.

Under the provisions of the Education Act, governors and local authorities have a duty to do their best to ensure that the necessary provision is made for pupils with SEND and must have regard to the SEND Code of Practice.

Most governing bodies appoint a link governor to have specific oversight of the school’s arrangements and provision for meeting SEND. The governor is the link between the governing body and the school in relation to pupils with SEND.

At our school, the link governor for SEND is Mr M Doyle.
