Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse can have a significant impact on a child’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour, learning and relationships. Children are recognised in law as victims of domestic abuse in their own right, and schools play an important role in identifying and supporting them. [operatione...ompass.org], [gov.uk]

We work closely with families and external agencies to ensure that children feel safe, supported and listened to.

If you have concerns about yourself or a child, you can speak in confidence to the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Operation Encompass

Our school is part of Operation Encompass, a national safeguarding partnership between schools and police forces.

Operation Encompass ensures that when police attend a domestic abuse incident involving a child’s household, the child’s school is notified before the start of the next school day. [operatione...ompass.org], [operatione...ompass.org]

How Operation Encompass Works

  • Police share a confidential notification with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Information is shared securely and sensitively
  • Only staff who need to know are informed
  • The school can then offer appropriate, timely and compassionate support to the child

This may include additional emotional support, flexibility during the school day, or checking in with the child to ensure they feel safe.

Operation Encompass is now a statutory information‑sharing duty in England, meaning all police forces are legally required to share these notifications with schools. [gov.uk]

Confidentiality

All Operation Encompass information is treated as highly confidential safeguarding information and managed in line with data protection requirements. It is never shared with other pupils and is only shared with staff on a strict need‑to‑know basis.
