National Share a Story Month (May)
National Share a Story Month is an annual celebration in May that promotes reading aloud and storytelling to inspire a love of books among children and communities.
National Share a Story Month (NSSM) is organised by the Federation of Children’s Book Groups (FCBG). The event celebrates the joy of storytelling and reading aloud, encouraging children, families, schools, libraries, and community groups to connect through books and the spoken word. It highlights the educational, cultural, and social benefits of sharing stories, including improving reading skills and fostering imagination.
We participate each year by inviting parents/ carers/ family members into school to share stories with the classes. Teachers also swap story times and read their favourites to other classes. The children also read to each other, becoming 'tiny teachers' for story time sessions.
